Ernesto Miranda's case made a major impact on society. Because of the case Miranda vs. Arizona, we now have the Miranda Rights. The Miranda Rights protect convicted people. It gives them the right to an attorney, and the right to remain silent. This can be a good thing or a bad thing. If a person is guilty, but they choose to stay silent, they could be released without being charged if the court doesn’t have enough evidence against them. This can also be a good thing if the convicted person is innocent. If a person’s Miranda Rights are not read to them, nothing they say can be used against them, even if it is a confession.

This rule is very
famous. President Nixon set out to get
rid of this rule, but he did not succeed.
When Miranda
signed his written confession, he had no idea
that he was protecting himself from self-incrimination. Although he was convicted a second time a few
years after the Miranda rights were established, he made a major impact on
society just by knowing the Fifth Amendment, and indicating so on his paper.
His case changed the Supreme Court.
